Goldfields Aboriginal Language Awards 2026

The 10th annual Goldfields Aboriginal Awards is now open for nominations. The Awards recognise those individuals, organisations and businesses that support, promote, or use First Nations languages. The language champions who deserve recognition.
 
The categories are:
 
Category 1: Hall of Fame: Long term commitment by an individual towards the use and preservation of Aboriginal languages. 
 
Category 2: Outstanding educational body promoting Aboriginal language learning.
 
Category 3 – Outstanding business promoting use of Aboriginal languages. 
 
Category 4 – Outstanding individual promoting use of Aboriginal languages. 
 
Category 5: Outstanding under 21-year-old using or promoting languages.
 
Category 6 – Outstanding individual contribution towards Aboriginal language use and preservation. 
 
Category 7 – Outstanding individual, organisation or business promoting interpretation and translating of Aboriginal languages. 
 
Category 8 – Outstanding government department or agency promoting use of Aboriginal languages.

The GALCAC Goldfields Aboriginal Language Awards is open for nominations for 2026! The nomination form can be found here.

Which language champion will you nominate?

Do you know someone who has worked to ensure languages stay alive and thrive?

Or perhaps a business that supports languages and language use? Go on, nominate them!

Members of the public are invited to nominate a Goldfields individual, educational institution, government agency or business that should be recognized for their contribution towards the use or preservation of Aboriginal languages, or for their efforts in developing language learning activities or provision of interpreting and translating services for Aboriginal people.

Nominees received a letter of congratulation and Award winners are announced at a morning tea and received a framed certificate.

Nominations forms can be downloaded or email us and we’ll send one info@wangka.com.au or phone 9021 3788. Alternatively, drop into the Goldfields Language Centre at Boulder Railway Station Building, Loopline Park, 49 Hamilton St, Boulder and pick a form up.
