People on Country: Vital Landscapes, Indigenous Futures reports on a significant social and environmental movement quietly gaining momentum and also documents an unusual collaboration between university researchers and Indigenous land managers. The ongoing struggles by Indigenous people to conserve and rehabilitate the outstanding natural and cultural  values of their ancestral lands deserve wide recognition and acclaim. Their efforts are too often ignored by commentators, the public policy community and political decision-makers. The Caring for Country movement needs to be at the centre, not the margins of our national conversation on climate change, biodiversity loss and resource depletion.
