A new GALCAC film is now available on GALCAC’s YouTube channel! ‘Barry the Ballot Paper’s Big Journey’ is a fun film aimed at helping young people understand how one vote can travel all the way to Canberra to help make a decision about which party becomes the next government.
How does my vote get from the Ngaanyatjarra Lands to Canberra? Does my one vote make a difference? Well, Barry the Ballot Paper is here to explain to you how it all works! This fun film with Barry the Ballot Paper was created thanks to the support of the Australian Electoral Commission, by the Goldfields Aboriginal Language Centre. It includes an original tune by Goldfields creative, Samuel Stubbs, the voice of Ngadju Elder Les Schultz, filming by Rodney Stratton, and puppetry by Sandy McKendrich. Script and director, Sue Hanson.
The film can be used in schools, the workplace, and at home to understand how a ballot paper carries a vote all the way to Canberra when there is a Federal election.
Enjoy seeing Barry as he walks his way across the NG Lands region!
Here are the words to the film’s jingle so you can sing along too!
This is our Country,
Our ngurra Ngarlipa kutju.
Time for all From red dirt roads to town and home,
Your say is power, don’t walk alone.
Walk in your vote,
Walk in AND vote
Yuwa palyana!!
Walk in your vote, Walk in AND vote
Yuwa palyana!!!
