GALCAC was thrilled to host a visit by Donna Starr to the Centre for 2 weeks, as the First of our First Nations linguistic interns.
Donna undertook a short research project during her stay, which culminated in the production of a paper and short film. The research was about why it is important to use the spelling system for each language, that has been determined by the language group’s elders.
The paper, ‘Protecting Languages Through Othrography‘ is available on this website.
A powerpoint presentation about the paper is also available with Donna talking it through with slides.
GALCAC runs a First Nations internship program with a bursary available to cover travel and accommodation costs whilst in Kalgoorlie. For further information, head to the section on this website about the program.
For further info head into the Goldfields Aboriginal Language Centre at Boulder Railway Station Building, Loopline Park, 49 Hamilton St, Boulder, or phone on (08)9021 3788 or email info@wangka.com.au
