The 9th annual Goldfields Aboriginal Awards was held in Kalgoorlie last week. The Awards recognise those individuals, organisations and businesses that support, promote, or use First Nations languages. The language champions who deserve recognition.
The winners of this years Awards were:
Category 1: Hall of Fame: Long term commitment by an individual towards the use and preservation of Aboriginal languages. Les Schultz
Category 3 – Outstanding business promoting use of Aboriginal languages. Gold Fields St Ives
Category 4 – Outstanding individual promoting use of Aboriginal languages. Dionie Johnson
Category 6 – Outstanding individual contribution towards Aboriginal language use and preservation. Amanda Sambo
Category 7 – Outstanding individual, organisation or business promoting interpretation and translating of Aboriginal languages. Finlayson House
Category 8 – Outstanding government department or agency promoting use of Aboriginal languages. Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage – Kalgoorlie Office.
A massive congratulations to everyone nominated and to the winners.
The Awards will run again in May 2026, so watch out for the call for nominations and make sure language Champions you know receive recognition!
