Buried Country: The story of Aboriginal country music (DVD)

Buried Country traces over six decades of rich musical tradition, using rare archival images and recordings and first-hand interviews with singers and songwriters from Jimmy Little, the first Aboriginal artist to top the charts, to contemporary country music star Cassar-Daley.

What emerges is not only a celebration of the music itself, but a poignant record of Indigenous Australia. As singer-songwriter Bob Randall puts it, the music offers a “way of release” for artists and audience alike. The songs give voice to Aboriginal people’s aspirations, their struggle for land rights and equality, the heartbreak of losing their children and their connection to the land.
